The team here at Allure Medical has been on a smoothie kick lately! Dr. Mok has installed special blenders and Vitamix machines in our kitchen/break room, along with a specially designated refrigerator just for smoothie ingredients (which he is generously supplying for our staff). The employees around here have been glowing and energetic these past few weeks, and its thanks in large part to the healing properties of these amazing drinks.
So, what makes green drinks so amazing? As with anything you are consuming, it is all about the ingredients. The drinks we have been making are very nutrient dense, feeding the powerhouse part of your body called the mitochondria cells. When these cells are satisfied, then your brain will shut off cravings and you stay full longer. By using a powerful blender, the cell walls of the plants are broken down, allowing your body to absorb the phytonutrients and antioxidants better. We’ve been making drinks (recipes below) that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which decrease inflammation in the body and in fact cause healing. This can actually have an anti-aging effect!
Are you ready to get on the smoothie bandwagon? Try these recipes below, which I recommend over and over again.
Big Green Drink
This is a favorite, and I make it regularly for family and friends. You can make this and drink it slowly throughout the day. Try having half for breakfast and then the rest for lunch. Follow with a big salad filled with an array of colors and legumes and seeds. If you live locally in the Detroit area, Living Zen Organics makes an amazing salad dressing called Salad Dressing Number 1. You can find it at Nutri-Foods in Royal Oak or Plum Markets around town.
(4) Kale leaves
Pinch of ginger (about half thumb size) – optional
1 cup frozen or fresh blueberries
3 cups fresh squeezed orange juice
3 tbsp. ground flax seeds
Directions: Remove stems from the kale. Blend all ingredients in a high-powered blender or Vitamix and enjoy!
Warning: This will result in weight loss, improved mood, thinning of the waist line, less cravings, decreased hunger, more energy….and improved digestion!
Something Sweeter Smoothie
Drink this if you are new to smoothies and want something sweeter to try.
3 leaves of organic kale
1 frozen banana
2 cups almond milk
1-2 table spoons chia seeds or flax
Directions: Blend and drink right away for smoother taste.
