We use a combination of IV sedation or “twilight anesthesia” and a diluted local anesthetic (tumescent anesthesia). This combination is by far the safest way to approach this surgery. Some people prefer to be awake for liposuction and that can be done very comfortably by adjusting the tumescent fluid and technique allowing a procedure without an IV or sedation medications.
The procedure can be done in such a way that it is close to painless. The tumescent fluid causes profound anesthesia (numbness) when doing smaller areas. For multiple areas or large areas, not as strong of a local can be used, so sedation may be required.
You can begin to see changes as early as 2 weeks, but it takes about 6 months to see final results.
The vast majority of patients are back to work in a few days and exercising in about 1-2 weeks.
The scars are tiny dots and generally fade over time.
No, this is an outpatient procedure. You should be able to have dinner in your home the night of surgery. You'll actually want to push yourself to be as active as possible right after surgery, as this helps speed up the recovery process.
