How to Make a Mushroom Latte
The next time you sit down to enjoy your morning cup of coffee, there’s an ingredient you need to consider adding.
No, it’s not cream.
And it certainly isn’t sugar. It’s mushrooms.
That’s right, mushrooms
The fabulous fungi you’ve enjoyed in countless soups, salads, and pastas is a nutrient-rich superfood that forward-thinking nutritionists are suggesting their clients enjoy every morning.
What is a mushroom latte?
Before you go tossing criminis and portobellos in your next pot of coffee, you should know exactly what we mean when we say “add mushrooms to your coffee.”
Mushroom coffee (also known as a mushroom latte) isn’t actually coffee at all—it’s hot water blended with wild mushroom extract and a common fungi parasite called cordyceps.
Native to the mountains of China, cordyceps is a fungus (like every other mushroom) that’s long been used to treat a variety of illnesses (including bronchitis, anemia, irregular heartbeat, high cholesterol, and opium addiction) and boost the immune system in traditional Chinese medicine.
What are the benefits of wild mushroom extract?
In addition to the potential long-term health benefits of cordycepts, wild mushroom extract has a stimulating effect on the mind and body, similar (though not identical) to caffeine.
Moreover, wild mushroom extract has been shown to improve the body’s capacity for weight management, ATP production, and the repair and recovery of cells.
But best of all, wild mushroom extract is organic, vegan, paleo-friendly, and free from any fillers or non-natural contaminants.
How is Mushroom coffee served?
Mushroom coffee is served the same way you’d serve any regular cup of coffee—piping hot in a regular mug and blended to your taste buds. If you want to add drop of cream—go for it. A teaspoon of sugar?—that’s fine too (although here at Allure, we recommend skipping the sugar).
But if you want to extract the maximum benefits from your mushroom coffee, we recommend enjoying it “straight up” which is to say without any additional ingredients—just hot water, and your favorite wild mushroom extract.
Not everyone enjoys a cup of plain-old Mushroom coffee. Sometimes, you just need to kick it up a notch, which is why we want to give you a recipe for a world-class mushroom latte.
